Finding My Freedom
Form-Nation,
As I write this and reflect on a few short weeks, it’s shocking to notice how much has changed in our world. Up until this last week, I didn’t even feel like myself. And I didn’t notice the foggy state I had been in until I was out of it and looked back. Thankfully Roman was on the other end of the spectrum and was already changing gears as this unfolded and was able to keep things moving forward for us with the studio. We all handle things differently.
First, thank you. All of you. Everyone has been affected by this and despite personal circumstance, it’s really incredible how many of you care about Formation Studio. About the team. About us. We feel so fortunate to have you lift us up and support us in this time of uncertainty. Your efforts to financially contribute, share us on social or send check in emails and DM’s have been so impactful to us.
Community has always been at the core of what we do and zooming out on that now allows me to observe how much unity there is in this time. I see people so consciously spending their dollars with small businesses, calling their vulnerable loved ones to organize their grocery runs, checking in with their single friends who may be lonely right now. Not to mention the incredible first responders, grocery clerks, delivery people and others who allow so many of us to stay home and stay healthy. We all need each other and are showing up for one another.
We want to continue to be there for you. We’ve been working non-stop to bring you a digital studio experience. While you can visit the beta site now, we look forward to sharing the full program. It was always in our plans and it’s exciting we get to bring it to life now. We’re still waiting on some equipment to be delivered and a few kinks need to be worked out but we’re happy we can still dance with you a few times a week.
In the meantime, as we collectively continue to navigate our new normal, I wanted to share a few things that have been helpful for me over the last few weeks. We all have different paths and situations, so much like being in the studio I encourage you to do you. Nurture your mind, heart and body the way that you need.
Wishing you all good health and sending you virtual high fives. We got this.

Impact Theory is one of my favourite podcasts and if you have had some anxiety about Corona Virus, this episode features a behavioural scientist who talks about breaking the anxiety cycle. I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts (especially while baking… more on that below) as I find them grounding. Hearing other people’s journeys and what they’ve overcome reminds me that we all can do the same.
I do three-ish pages of stream of consciousness-style writing in the morning. It helps me clear my mind, work out problems, and keeps me focused. Some prompts if you’re new to this: How am I feeling right now? What do I want from my day today? What am I grateful for? What does my dream life look like? If you’re like me and treat notebooks and penmanship preciously, here is your explicit permission to literally write what comes to mind, nice and messy as no one will grade you on this and you don’t ever have to read it back.
Colouring books. I found one from a few years ago and have been doing that as a wind down activity.
Lots of baking chocolate chip cookies. I’ve made three batches so far and decided that I need to use this time to find my ultimate chocolate chip cookie. I really like these ones with spelt flour from Butter and Brioche, but also want to try this recipe from Tasty and this recipe from Bon Appetit. Once I get through these, I’m moving on to find my favourite banana bread.
I’ve had a list of projects I’ve avoided forever. I’m tackling them now when I don’t feel like working. (Organizing digital files and videos, cleaning out the bookcase, changing all my online passwords and storing them… so many house things!)
When setting up online hangouts with pals I’ve added a theme like your fav lipstick and sunglasses or fun hats to feel like you’re getting ready to go out.
Have a great week. x
