The dance fitness studio
Vancouver actually
needed.
There are dozens of ways to work out in Vancouver. Most of them feel like work. Formation is the one that doesn't.
Most workouts feel
like a punishment.
You count reps. You watch the clock. You leave thinking, "Good, that's done."
That's a deal you make to stay in shape. Formation breaks the deal.
Movement designed around music, not the other way around. You leave the room having burned through an hour without checking the time once. You keep coming back because it actually feels good — not because you should.
Three easy ways in.
Mount Pleasant is one of the most transit-connected neighborhoods in Vancouver. Whatever way you move, we're a short trip from Main Street, Olympic Village, or downtown.
The workout is built around the music.
Other studios play music behind the workout. Formation builds the workout around the music. Hip-hop drives the rhythm; we use a wide range of genres because emotion needs range. Movement and beat are the same thing here.
One philosophy.
Six ways in.
FREEDOM, FREEDOM FOUNDATIONS, POWER, STEP, SCULPT, PRESENCE. Six class formats, all beginner-friendly, all built around one idea: movement that trains body and mind together.
Formation is for people who love to dance.
Used to dance. Loves to dance. Wants to dance. We're not a training ground for intermediate or advanced dancers pursuing a professional path — we're the place for everyone else who just wants to move.
Every body.
Every energy.
All beginner-friendly. All built around the same idea: movement that trains body and mind together.
FREEDOM
High-energy cardio dance. The original Formation format — music-driven movement at full intensity.
FREEDOM FOUNDATIONS
The beginner entry point. All the same music-driven energy, slowed down enough to learn the foundations.
POWER
Strength training fused with choreography. Build capacity and learn to move at the same time.
STEP
Elevated platform work meets coordination training. High output, spatial awareness, and rhythm.
SCULPT
Mat-based strength and conditioning. Controlled, focused, deeply effective.
PRESENCE
Dedicated choreography instruction. Learn to move with intention — to music, in space, in your body.
Formation vs.
everything else.
A studio designed around the part of class you remember, the bass hitting, the lights changing, the moment you stop checking the clock.
Built around the kind of movement that stays with you.
Saschie started Formation after her sister Chantal passed away. The studio is built around the kind of movement Chantal loved — music, energy, presence.
Roman runs operations. Together, they've built the space to be the place you go to feel like yourself again, especially on the days you don't.
That's not a marketing line. It's the reason every decision about the space, the formats, and the culture gets made the way it does.
Real people.
Real regulars.
"I hadn't worked out consistently in three years. I walked into FREEDOM FOUNDATIONS on a Tuesday night expecting to hate it. I've been back every week for eight months."
"I came in knowing nothing about dance. The room being dim actually helped — you stop worrying about what you look like and just move. That was the whole shift for me."
"I'd tried every studio in Vancouver. Nothing stuck until Formation. The music-first thing isn't just marketing — you actually feel it differently. An hour goes by and it registers as twenty minutes."
The brain part of
music-driven.
Synchronizing movement to a beat lights up motor and reward circuits at the same time. Learning choreography exercises memory and attention. Group movement releases the same neurochemicals as social bonding.
None of this is hype — it's documented across decades of research.
We don't lead with the science because nobody comes to a fitness studio for a journal article. But the reason Formation works is the same reason humans have always danced together.
Two ways to start.
Pick your pace. Most regulars discover they're hooked sometime during the second week.
